New Year…Time to Regroup!

I can’t believe we are already into January of 09!  Over the Christmas holidays, I wasn’t doing very much conscious eating, and I was also doing little to no exercise.  As with every new year, with it comes new resolve and some time to reflect.  I’m back on track this week.  I was scared to step on the scale, but I did it.  It read 154 this morning…up 7 pounds from last time I weighed in before the Christmas holidays.

I’m just going to regroup, and get back on track.  My eating today was good and my dear hubby bought me Dance, Dance Revolution for the Wii.  I’m not very coordinated and have little to no grace (I sort of flap around the dance mat), but hey as long as I work up a sweat, that’s all that matters right?!  I’m my kids new entertainment.  They just watch  me and giggle.

Happy New Year!

Get More Steps into your Day!

Something as simple as wearing a pedometer can give HUGE results.  This handy little bit of technology can be purchased for under $20.00!  Clip it on for a few days to give you can idea of how much you are walking in a day.  Aim to add a 1,000 extra steps to your average to work up to 10,000 steps a day.  Once you hit 10,000, aim for higher!

Here are a few great ways to get in more steps in your day….

Step in place while you watch TV

Park farther away

Take the stairs

Get on the treadmill for 15 minutes

Walk around the block

Go to your basement or upstairs in your home and few extra times in the day

Walk around your house while talking on the phone

While grocery shopping, instead of walking down each side by side aisle, go the long way…pick aisles that are the furthest distance from each other!

In the winter, walk the mall (try not to shop too much!)

Take the kids for a walk to the park and play with them!

Walk the dog!

It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing you have to go big or go home when it comes to staying active.  Stepping 10,000 steps a day is a great way to not only lose weight and inches, but to keep those unwanted pounds from piling back on!

Anyone else have any ideas?

Hello world!

I decided to start a blog about exercise, and healthy living as I spent so many years unhappy with my weight and clueless as to how to change it.  I wished I could get help but was too embarrassed to ask for it.  So I hope you find some info that is helpful to you on this blog.  You deserve to live a life you love.  It’s not just about food, it’s not just about exercise, it’s about finding a program that works for you and one that you can sustain for the rest of your life.  This is a lifestyle, NOT a diet.
